Welcome to Legacy of Trees

We auction NFTs to raise funds to plant real living trees. Legacy of Trees has been created by Dan Whiteman, Managing Director of OblongTrees. Our NFTs raise funds which we pass on to OblongTrees to spend on planting, we are keeping this project separate so Oblong does not have to deal with Crypto transactions.

By buying and trading Legacy of Trees NFTs you help fund tree planting around the world and hopefully snag yourself a good investment. Please keep in mind that the NFT marketplace is volatile, the value of these NFTs may rise and fall dramatically.

So what is an NFT?
A Non Fungible Token is a unique digital asset that can be traded. See wikipedia for more information. Our NFTs represent digital art.

We want you to see our NFTs as an investment that also helps save the planet. We want our NFTs to increase in value - in a way these NFTs offer future generations the option to pay us back for planting trees now.

Why Invest?

1) Your investment in our NFTs will lead to trees being planted.
2) Investing in our NFTs increases their popularity, the more popular they become, the higher their likely value.
3) We aim for our NFTs to go up in value over time, so down the line you'll hopefully be able to sell your NFT at a profit.
4) Have you been investing in the crypto market for a while? Bitcoin in particular uses a massive amount of power, damaging the planet. The NFTs could help you mitigate the damage caused to the planet by your other crypto assets.

It's chicken and egg, if nobody buys then NFTs don't go up in value, the more people buy, the more they go up in value - the higher their value, the more trees we can plant.

NFTs are a High Risk Investment, make sure you fully understand the risks before you buy.
However, there is one big difference between our NFTs and most of the others on the market, our NFTs make a positive difference in the real world.

One good way to look at it might be that, first and foremost, you are planting trees which will help slow climate change, but rather than just paying to plant trees there is a chance your NFT may increase in value and later you may be able to sell it for more than you paid to purchase it.

Each of our NFTs will have its own unique page on this website, which will give top level details including the numbers of trees the NFT has funded, their age and where those trees have been planted - here is an example.

After the initial sale, each and every time one of our NFTs sells, we will also receive a percentage of the sale price - at least half of which will be used to plant more trees. For example, if one of our Digital Tree Collection tree NFTs is re-sold then we will receive 10% of the sale price - the webpage tied to the NFT will be updated with details of any new trees the sale has helped fund. So basically as our NFTs are traded and sold they will fund more and more trees.

Our main NFT collection

This is our primary NFT collection. We will auction one NFT tree video per day from the launch date. Proceeds raised will go towards planting real trees around the world. Some images will have rarer attributes, potentially making them more valuable. We will also be releasing trees for historic dates, so you can own/gift a tree for a meaningful day - for example for your child's birth date or a friend's wedding date.

We're currently learning to use the technology required to create & improve these NFTs. We think we've got to a good start point, our digital trees are starting to look really good. Our NFTs will only get better, higher resolution, more animation, more imaginitive. Not only does it take time to design each NFT but after the design is finished it currently takes around 20 hours for the computer to render one 360 degree rotating tree video, we will invest in better hardware to reduce times and increase resolution.

80% of the funds earned from this NFT collection will go toward tree planting.

Featured Artist Collections

From time to time we will release third party collections. We'll be working with artists who will gain a split of the money, at least 20% of the money raised will go towards planting trees. Each collection will give information about how much money goes towards planting trees and where those trees will be planted. Again each NFT will have a page on our website showing the number of trees it has helped fund.

Why plant trees?

Planting trees is the biggest and cheapest way to tackle the climate crisis. Trees store pollutants such as carbon and release oxygen into the atmosphere. Scientists say the affects trees have is mind blowing - they can negate the emissions that are pumped into the air by human activities.
